Sunny Brown is an educator, pastor, community advocate, and lifelong champion for children and families. She is the Founder and Executive Director of Haven Hill Initiative, Inc., a nonprofit born from her belief that every person deserves to be seen, valued, and allowed to thrive. Her work centers on three foundational principles: Discipleship. Justice. Belonging.

Sunny’s journey has never been traditional. After overcoming personal adversity and spending more than a decade as a single mother, she dedicated over 15 years to youth development, helping thousands of young people discover their gifts and potential. Her path has led her from nonprofit leadership to full-time pastoral ministry, the classroom as an educator, and higher education as a college professor. Each experience has strengthened her conviction that communities are transformed when we invest in people.

Today, Sunny serves as a middle school educator and college professor while pursuing her doctoral studies in Higher Education Leadership. She has built her career around culturally responsive education, restorative practices, and creating spaces where children and families know they belong.

Haven Hill is the culmination of her life’s work and calling. It is a vision rooted in faith, lived experience, and the belief that community care should extend far beyond the walls of a building. From scholarship opportunities and family events to mentorship, education, and future recreation spaces, Haven Hill exists to ensure that children eat first, families are supported, and every person is reminded of the greatness within them.

As Sunny often says, “Our job is to identify the genius in every person, and help guide them to sharpening that genius.”
